The Winter Essential: Puffer Coats

December 10, 2017

Finding a puffer coat with a little pizzaz is key for a winter outfit. Most of the time when we go out and about this time of year and don’t even take our coats off to show off the outfit underneath. A collection of good coats is essential this time of year for light jacket days, snowy days, and for fancy dresses, or weekends at the grocery store. There is a coat for every occasion.

Coats are Investment Pieces

I hope to one day have a coat collection that is as big as my shoe collection. One coat to match every outfit. The only thing tricky about a coat collection is a quality jacket is pretty pricey. Investing in a new coat requires a lot of thought and savings in order to find the perfect piece to wear all winter long. I always like to find timeless coats that will last a few seasons long too.

The Coat for Colorado Winters

I have a pretty good head start with my coat collection with many different coats in different styles and colors that can go with practically any outfit. The most essential coat for the Colorado climate is the puffer coat. There is nothing warmer than a puffer coat. Every resident of Colorado needs several different puffer coats for every occasion. If you are new to the state or if you’re in another winter town and starting your winter coat collection a puffer coat is a good place to start.

The long trench length puffer like the Cole Haan above is most practical for when a snow storm is in the forecast or for trips to the mountains. When it goes below thirty your going to want everything covered in thick insulation. When I went to the X-Games in Aspen last year and I saw 21 Pilots while standing on a frozen solid mountain in the dead of winter I was most thankful for my long coat to keep me warm all night. That and Sorel snow boots will get you through the snowy months in Colorado.

Puffer Coat Brands

Patagonia, Marmot, and The North Face are all my favorite places to shop for quality puffer coats. But if you’re looking for something a little more whimsical, a coat with that gives your outfit personality, I would start shopping at Anthropologie. Anthro is my favorite place for unique pieces in bold colors and prints. That is where I bought the gorgeous blue floral print puffer that I am wearing in the photos. I bought it a few years ago so it is no longer available however I have found several similar ones linked above. If you want to see some of my favorite coats from Anthropologie this season click here, here, and here. And hurry and buy them today while they are 30% off!!! Find more of my favorite puffers and more with the links above. I hope you’re enjoying all the holiday shopping and sales! If you ever need style advice you can always contact me.
