J Crew and Madewell Try On

The autumn anticipation is killing me at this point! The heat is not letting up in the foreseeable future but I can’t help shopping for all the cozy layers in the meantime. I am getting very excited for a week-long mountain getaway coming up next week and I am preparing my wardrobe with a lot of fun fall looks for a hopefully brisk fall getaway. Of course, I had to stop by two of my favorite local shops to see some things I have been eyeing online in person. I am sharing what caught my eye during this fall try on at my local Madewell and JCrew and how I am putting together the perfect fall wardrobe with pieces that will easily match together.
The first thing I was shopping for was a long sleeve striped shirt. Striped shirts are the perfect base layer underneath jackets and sweaters and paired with jeans and skirts. I did not have any long sleeve striped shirts in my closet so I am planning on buying a couple more throughout the season in different colors. I tried this lovely dark red top at Madewell it was the perfect basic top I was looking for and it is only $30. The x-small was a little to tight in the arms so I decided to buy it in a small, there is a little extra fabric in the midsection but I liked being able to move my arms easier in the small. I really love the dark red autumn hue, it will go with a lot of things I already own and warms up any fall wardrobe. Some other striped shirts I have on my wishlist is this bright red short sleeve mock neck, this green and white stripe long sleeve, this brown striped turtleneck, and this balloon sleeve soft pink stripe.

I pulled these jeans off the sales rack at Madewell. They are a nice dark wash perfect for fall and I loved the high rise and cuffed bottoms. Unfortunately, the size was probably 2 sizes too big, and I never had anyone offer to exchange sizes for me while I was in the dressing room. So I am totally lost on what size fits me at Madewell and may just have to order jeans from Everlane. Everlane has been my favorite place for jeans that are quality made and under $100 dollars. Plus they are the best fitting jeans I have ever owned.
I liked this navy blue eyelet button down a lot. The x-small fit perfectly. I really loved the preppy sophisticated look of this top. This would be a pretty casual top to wear to work and to layer with sweaters. I like it dressed down with the jeans but it would be really cute with grey or tan skinny trousers or tucked into a swishy knee length skirt. It is see through so you will need a dark bralette or undershirt to go with it. I added this one to my wishlist and I will probably wait for it to go on sale.

I really loved this denim mini dress online. It was selling out quickly every time they restocked it but I was lucky enough to find a size 2 to try on in store. I was pretty disappointed by how it looked on me. The fabric was pretty limp and the dress just did not suit my body shape as I hoped. This is why I like being able to try things on before I buy it because often times the dress looks and feels completely different in person compared to what is pictured on the model. I passed on this dress but I liked how it looked styled with the color block cardigan and I think it would be cute for fall with some tall boots.
I don’t have many cardigans in my closet and this one was so perfect. I loved this neutral tone color block, it will spice up a lot of fall outfits I already own. Plus it is a very soft and extremely cozy sweater. I bought the x-small, I probably could have sized down to an xx-small, which is typically what I do with Madewell sweaters, but I was satisfied with a size up which gives me more room for layering. I can’t wait to wear this one up in the mountains. I am hoping I can buy it in a few other colors like the dark green and camel color.

I did not take a photo in the shop at Madewell but I also managed to find the perfect brown loafers. I have a black patent leather pair from Everlane that I love, but the love has been painful as I am still trying to break in those suckers, even after sizing up from my normal size 9  to a 10 1/2. But when I tried on these brown loafers at Madewell in a size 9 they were the perfect fit and so comfortable. I did get some blisters the first day of walking in them but they should be much easier to break in compared to the Everlane ones. I think loafers are a staple item that every girl needs in their wardrobe for fall. These warm brown loafers are the perfect color that goes with literally every single outfit. Every outfit I tried on at J Crew matched perfectly with the loafers and I can’t wait to style them more on the blog with my wardrobe.
The gingham button up is on my wishlist for fall and I will probably pick it up once the weather gets cold, so maybe closer to winter time. I loved the button up and cashmere sweater layered look (below), it is a little preppier than I normally go for but I am really loving that style right now, and it is always a classic choice that is always in style. The camel cashmere sweater was such a cozy piece and I loved how it looked layered with the navy gingham button up. It is another item that is added to my very long fall wishlist.
These pink pants were a miss for me. They were cute on the hanger and I think they would be a better fit for someone who has skinnier thighs (my legs are pretty thick and muscular thanks to genetics). I also am way more comfortable in high rise pants so these did not work for me. So I am still on the hunt for the perfect trousers to wear with sweaters for fall. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions on where to find a high rise trouser. That would be much appreciated!!

Next, I tried on this lovely fall floral print dress that also comes in a skirt (see below) I loved the green color of this dress but I was wishing it was a little longer so I did not buy it. The store I was at only had the skirt in the black color if they would of had the green color in stock I probably would have bought it. It was the perfect length (longer than the dress) and I am always on the hunt for more green to add to my closet. I will probably buy this skirt online soon.

I ended up buying this army green knit sweater. I really liked the thick material of it and I really needed to add a green sweater to my wardrobe. It is an easy neutral color that will match with a lot of things. I also really loved these gingham skinny trousers. They are high rise and extremely comfortable. I loved how they looked with the loafers but I think I would put a little more thought into styling these bold pants they are cute but I would want to keep them classic with a black long sleeve light weight sweater or t-shirt and then maybe add a little edge with a leather moto jacket and booties.

I loved these pink pants, but they did not have my size in store so they are another item I am keeping my eye on and I may eventually buy online. Other than the waistline being to big I loved the way they fit with the straight legs style and high rise. This shade of pink is the perfect shade for fall too because it is a bit warmer and looks good with camel, beige and brown. My favorite part of course was the bow belt, it really made the pants stand out. This was probably my favorite outfit I tried on at J Crew.

I hoped you liked this post. A little something different than I normally do so let me know if you would like to see more of these try on hauls in the comment below! Thanks for reading on this lovely Saturday! And happy shopping!
